It would not be easy to get a traditional Irish sound in Australia although there are some fine musicians here.
So I did the next best thing. I played all the instruments, overdubbing many times, but it can cause instruments to fight for space, resulting in a thick, “muddy” sound where individual parts are difficult to distinguish.
Overproduction can move music away from feeling like a personal, intimate experience to an unnatural, abstract collage of sounds.
So people said ‘why not send your songs to Ireland and maybe someone will record some of them in a studio.
I sent some songs 3 or 4 years ago, but nobody had the self-respect to reply.
The packages were registered and there was an email address.
It has nothing to do with the quality of the songs. It has to do with self-respect.
When you have lost your self-respect, you have nothing.
